The NZUS Council applauds the Joint Declaration released today by Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Rt Hon Winston Peters and US Secretary of State The Hon. Antony Blinken, following their meeting in Washington DC.
The Declaration recommits to the historic partnership between our two countries, based on shared values and interests, and commits to working even more closely together with each other and with other like-minded regional partners including in the Pacific.
We welcome the new commitment to holding annual US-NZ Foreign Minister talks, given the shared challenges both countries face in the global and regional strategic environment. This Joint Declaration marks a further step in the evolution of the bilateral relationship, building on the Wellington and Washington Declarations. In short, it is a good day for the NZ-US relationship.
